    Manufactured Home: Foundation Compliance

All foundation systems, new and existing, must meet the guidelines published in the Permanent Foundation Guide for Manufactured Housing (HUD-7584), dated September 1996.  A certification attesting to compliance with this handbook must be obtained from a licensed professional engineer.

Standen Engineering Services provides these inspections and reports meeting the FHA and HUD requirements.  Some of the items that are inspected and verified are:

Site layout, drainage and flood-prone area identification.
Name, address and phone of home manufacturer.
    Date of manufacture.
  • Date of foundation construction and type of foundation.
  • Building permit and inspection record.
  • Foundation size and tie down placement.
  • Applicable loads on the foundations.

Re-inspection will only be required if it is determined that the home does not meet the FHA-HUD requirements at the first inspection and the home owner wishes to make suggested modifications so that the home meets the requirements.  Standen Engineering will work with the home owner to provide the most cost affective solution to any problem.  The most common problem found is that the home does not have enough tie-downs to satisfy the HUD requirements.  A manufactured home is typically lighter than a site-built home and HUD is concerned with sliding and overturning during high winds.  The manufactured home should be attached to the permanent foundation in accordance with the manufacturer's foundation requirements.
